Newly released body camera footage from an arrest in Oklahoma City last year shows another Black man cries “I can’t breathe” before he died at a hospital.
In the May 20, 2019 footage, released this week by the Oklahoma City Police Department, three officers are seen restraining the man, Derrick Scott, 42, who can be heard asking repeatedly for his medicine and saying that he can’t breathe.
“I don’t care,” one of the officers, Jarred Tipton, can be heard replying at one point. Scott, who appears unresponsive several minutes into the footage, was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Air is one of the most important things that is free to all humanity. But it appears that even free is been deprived form many Black men in America. Millions of people around the world are beginning to question why America’s police will deprive African American’s air. Free air. The ability to BREATHE !!!
Most Republicans are quick to argue that the police assault on Black Americans’ families is isolated cases of few bad apples. THat overall, the police are good and mean well. But as many video surfaces, many are now wondering the extent of the destructive impact that the police has had on the Black communities across the country. From false police reports, framing of black men for a crime they did not commit to the mass incarceration of young Black men, thus resulting to single-parent homes in Black communities…
As usual, the three officers involved in this case were cleared — Tipton, Ashley Copeland, and Sgt. Jennifer Titus — of misconduct by the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office.
The picture tells a million words. You can see the glee and disregard for Black Lives on this picture.
