Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Jigawa State, has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
Presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, made the disclosure of the appointment on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, stating that is in exercise of the President’s powers conferred on him as established in Section 3(6) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.
Meet Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu
He’s an indigene of Birnin Kudu Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
Dr. Aliyu has been in active legal practice since his admission to the Nigerian Bar in 2004, with the exception of time spent pursuing postgraduate studies.
In 2011, he earned an LL.M in Islamic Law from Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria.
In 2019, he received a PhD in Constitutional Law from the School of Law, Universiti Utara Malaysia, concentrating on the Appointment and Discipline of Judicial Officers in Nigeria.
Dr. Aliyu’s years of practice as an advocate began at the legal offices of AKI P.A. and Company in Gombe State, after which he progressed to A.A. Umar & Co. in Kano, the well-known law company founded by the late Aliyu Umar SAN; a former Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Kano State between 2003 and 2011.
He is an active member of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, and Nigeria Association of Law Teachers.
Dr. Aliyu has worked in numerous roles with the NBA Kano Branch, including serving as Vice-Chairman of the NBA Kano Branch from 2016 to 2017, Chairman of the NBA Kano Branch’s Human Rights Committee from 2016 to 2017, Secretary of the NBA Kano Branch’s Continuing Legal Education Committee from 2014 to 2016, and member of the branch’s Anti-Corruption Committee from 2012 to 2014.
