The Many Crimes Of Sacked Nigerian Senator, Abbo

Elisha Ishaku Abbo has been sacked on Monday, October 16, 2023, as the Senator representing Adamawa North Senatorial District. This is according to Justice C.E. Nwosu-Iheme of an Abuja Court of Appeal, who pronounced Amos Yohannah of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the senatorial election.

Consequently, Justice Nwosu-Iheme ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the Certificate of Return issued to Abbo and give it to Yohanna.

What happened?

AfroWorldNews recalls that in February, Abbo, according to the electoral commission, emerged as senator-elect, while Yohanna came second, but the latter challenged the outcome in court.

Yohanna’s case was, however, dismissed by the election petition tribunal because it lacked merit.

The PDP candidate was relentless, as he filed an appeal with the Appeal Court under appeal number CA/YL/EP/AD/SEN/06/2023 through his counsel, Johnson Usman (SAN).

The Court of Appeal agreed with Usman that the results demonstrated that the Electoral Act of 2022 was not implemented, citing Section 137 of the Act.

As a result, the Court invalidated the contestants’ votes and determined that Yohanna and the PDP had obtained the majority of legal votes to win the election.

Abbo’s woes

This is, however, not the first time Abbo made news headlines for no good reason. It would be recalled that in May 2019, the sacked lawmaker was caught on camera abusing a nursing mother identified as Osimibibra Warmate in front of a police officer.

The incident, which happened in a sex toy shop in Abuja, resulted in a public uproar. Abbo was later arrested, charged to court, and consequently prosecuted before a Magistrate Court in Zuba, Abuja.

In a shocking development, despite video evidence that went viral at the time, Magistrate Abdullahi Ilelah affirmed the lawmaker’s no-case statement and dismissed the case.

Warmate, the woman the lawmaker attacked, then filed a separate civil claim in the FCT High Court. On September 28, the presiding judge, Samira Bature, ruled in her favour and convicted Abbo. He was then ordered to pay N50 million in compensation to the victim.

A year later, Abbo was captured in another viral video. But this time, he was seen beating a young man.

The video was shared on X, formerly Twitter by Debo Adebayo, a Nigerian comedian also known as Mr. Marcaroni.

In the video, Abbo repeatedly smacked the man and yelled at the top of his lungs, “You are very stupid.”
