Despite the gains made since the legalization of abortion, the promise of Roe v. Wade has not been fully realized for many women of color. A rising wave of restrictive abortion laws is affecting women across the country, and women of color are more likely to live in states with the most restrictive abortion laws, and there exists the danger of mass arrest of women of color across the country.
Keena Ferguson a Hollywood actress, director https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1683189/ and classically trained dancer and a graduate of The Ohio State University known for her many performances in a vast array of TV guest roles on many hit TV shows (Atlanta, SWAT, All American) tackled this issue of the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in the upcoming short film titled; Backlogged. The film is co-produced by Osayande Aghaze; https://www.imdb.com/name/nm9300620/a Nigerian American film producer.
In Backlogged, Mrs. Ferguson took a step further to anticipate the consequences of stricter laws and their implication on women and especially Black and Latino women.
Mrs. Ferguson stated, “Pro-Choice has always been something I am passionate about, and it’s also personal to me. I wrote this story in 2016 and didn’t know how important it would be until now. With the full attack on women’s rights and now that Roe v Wade is Overturned, I knew it was time for me to shoot the film and tell this story.”
This film features an exceptionally talented cast; La Nisa Fredericks, the co-creator of Hashtag Booked and featured in Forbes and Essence, Leith Burke from Bosch, Grey’s Anatomy, and Life in Pieces as lead, and Kairös Frasier as a supporting.
